Phoebe Elizabeth Susan Litchfield emerged as a standout talent in her teenage years, with one of her net sessions for New South Wales in 2019 going viral and thrusting her into the national spotlight.
That year marked significant early milestones for the budding star. At just 16, she made her debut for Sydney Thunder, scripting history by becoming the youngest player to score a WBBL half-century in her second match.
Litchfield’s rapid ascent continued after graduating from high school, with her first appearance for Australia A against England and a promising preseason with New South Wales. In October 2022, she notched her first WNCL century for the state, followed by her most successful WBBL campaign as a professional cricketer.
The left-hander then earned her first call-up to the Australia T20I squad for the December 2022 tour of India. She made her T20I debut in the second match of the series and was thrust into the spotlight as the opener for the final game after Alyssa Healy’s injury.
Her breakthrough season culminated in an inaugural ODI call-up for Australia’s 2023 home series against Pakistan and a Test debut against England at Trent Bridge the same year. Litchfield further cemented her legacy by scoring her first ODI century against Ireland months later, earning her the ICC Emerging Cricketer of the Year award for 2023.
Now a cornerstone of the Australian team across all formats, Litchfield’s leadership was recognized when she was appointed captain of Sydney Thunder for WBBL|10.
