About Cameron Donald Green

Cameron Green, a towering allrounder who stands nearly two metres tall, has lived up to the hype that surrounded him since his early teens. His impressive rise to the top has been marked by notable achievements in both his batting and bowling skills.

Green burst onto the first-class scene as a 17-year-old in February 2017 when he took a five-wicket haul against Tasmania in his first Sheffield Shield appearance with Western Australia. His debut haul of 30 first-class wickets came at an impressive average of just 22.53, a testament to his early promise as a bowler.

However, it was the strides he made with the bat that truly vaulted him into national calculations. Green’s breakout game came in November 2019 when he hit unbeaten scores of 87 and 121 from No.8 and 9 against Queensland, which saw him promoted up the WA order and subsequently flourish as a top-order player with two more centuries in the season. His form continued to improve, with a 197 off 438 against NSW in October 2020.

As a mainstay in WA’s top four, Green was also working to overcome limitations on his bowling, which had been compromised by stress fractures in his back. Nevertheless, he eventually resumed bowling following months of remedial work on his action. This perseverance paid off when he earned a call-up to Australian squads in late 2020, making his ODI and Test debut that summer against India.

Green’s international career has been marked by several notable milestones. He passed fifty in five of his first six series, took a maiden five-wicket haul at the MCG against South Africa in the 2022 Boxing Day Test, and hit his first Test century against India in Ahmedabad in March 2023. His batting prowess has been complemented by a series of stunning highlight-reel catches in the gully.

Opening the batting on a T20I tour of India in September 2022 proved a turning point in his career, as flayed a pair of impressive fifties that led to him being purchased by Mumbai Indians for a then-record A$3.15million in that year’s IPL auction. He repaid his new team with a 47-ball century that propelled them into the playoffs.

After undergoing back surgery in 2024 that ruled him out for several months, Green was initially restricted from bowling until late 2025. However, he returned as a batter only via the UK’s County Championship in mid-2025, and later built up his bowling loads in the Sheffield Shield. This hard work earned him a return to the Australian squad, this time as an allrounder, for the opening Ashes Test.
