From Dublin in the ’80s to modern-day Melbourne, Kim Garth’s story is one of generations and gifts, and losses and gains. And at the forthcoming ODI World Cup, Garth – and her mum – will make history.

Garth, a 29-year-old pace-bowling allrounder, has catapulted herself from the tiny cricket world of Dublin into the best XI of the most dominant team on the planet.

With over 14 years of international experience, Garth is set to play her first ODI World Cup with Australia. She spoke of her excitement and hope to play a big role at the event.

‘It’s very, very exciting,’ Garth said. ‘Hopefully I can play a big role over there.’

Anne-Marie Garth, a member of Ireland Women’s 1988 World Cup squad, will also make history as part of this mother-daughter duo. She remains humble and prefers her children to speak on her behalf.

However, with her daughter’s success, Anne-Marie has come to appreciate and contextualise her own playing days. She treasures the memories and recognises the evolution of the sport.

‘Cricket is a tiny sport in Ireland,’ she said. ‘I still have my (Ireland World Cup) blazer hanging up in the wardrobe. I nearly threw that out one day, when we were moving house. Oh my God, what was I thinking? It means a lot now.’

With the ODI World Cup just around the corner, Garth and her mother are set to make a lasting impact on the sport.

As Garth’s career continues to soar, the implications of her selection and experience will be crucial in the coming weeks. With Australia relying on her pace and skill, the 29-year-old will look to make a lasting impression at the ODI World Cup.
