Sahibzada Mohammad Shahid Khan Afridi, a seasoned cricketer of Pakistan, has announced that the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 will mark his farewell to one-day cricket, signifying the end of his illustrious one-day international career.
Known for his electrifying batting style and exceptional leg-spin bowling, Afridi has captivated fans worldwide since making his one-day international debut in 1996. His remarkable journey has spanned over two decades, during which he has donned the Pakistani jersey with pride and distinction.
With an impressive count of more than 385 ODI caps under his belt, Afridi once held the record for the fastest one-day century, achieved off 37 balls in his maiden ODI innings, before Cory Anderson broke the title. He remains one of the few players to achieve this milestone.
Afridi’s skills with the ball are equally formidable, with more than 390 one-day wickets to his name, including career-best figures of 7-12, a remarkable performance against West Indies in 2013.
Afridi has participated in the ICC Cricket World Cup on four occasions, in 1999, 2003, 2007 and 2011. He has delivered outstanding performances in the tournament, with his best being against Kenya in 2011, where he picked up an impressive 5-16.
After initially retiring from Test cricket in 2006 to focus on his limited-overs game, Afridi made an extraordinary comeback in 2010 with a single Test appearance. His Test cricket record stands at 27 matches, with a total of 1716 runs and 48 wickets.
