The Royal Challengers Bengaluru team was initially formed with a focus on experienced players, being branded a Test XI in 2008, but they only managed to secure four wins in their inaugural season. However, the team made a significant turnaround in the following three seasons, achieving two runners-up finishes.
Over the years, the franchise has made significant investments in players at auctions, including Yuvraj Singh in 2014, Dinesh Karthik in 2015, and Chris Morris in 2020. Although these big buys were not always retained for a second season if they did not perform well initially, the franchise consistently showed faith in Virat Kohli, who remained loyal to the team. In 2023, under the leadership of Faf du Plessis, RCB finished fourth, and they repeated this feat the following year.
The team’s long wait for a title finally came to an end in 2025, when they won their first championship under the leadership of Rajat Patidar. In the final, they held their nerve against the Punjab Kings to secure the title, 18 years after the league’s inception, validating Virat Kohli’s unwavering faith in the team.
