The Sydney Sixers have announced the appointment of Greg Shipperd as their new coach for the KFC T20 Big Bash League season.
Shipperd joins the Sixers from Victoria, where he enjoyed great success, leading the team to four domestic titles in the first incarnation of the Big Bash.
The former Western Australia and Tasmania batsman brings a wealth of experience to the role, having also coached the Melbourne Stars to the Big Bash League semi-finals.
Shipperd replaces Trevor Bayliss, who left his post as coach of the Sixers and NSW Blues in May to become the new England coach.
Greg Shipperd said it was an excellent team to coach and is excited about the emerging young players and the balance of experience and youth.
Sixers General Manager Dominic Remond believes Shipperd’s experience makes him the perfect man to build on the franchise’s recent success.
Shipperd’s appointment comes after former Ireland international Trent Johnston was announced as Bayliss’s replacement as coach of the NSW Blues.
The remainder of the Sixers coaching staff will be announced in the coming months.
