Temba Bavuma’s journey to the pinnacle of international cricket began at just 18 years old, when he made his first-class debut for Gauteng. Showing immense promise, he quickly progressed through the ranks to make his debut for South Africa A just three years later.
His breakthrough on the international stage came in 2016 when he scored a brilliant, unbeaten 102 against England to claim his maiden Test century. After finding his feet at the highest level, Bavuma developed into a highly consistent and dependable batsman. Between 2021 and 2024, he enjoyed a prolific period in red-ball cricket, scoring 1,584 Test runs at an impressive average of 48, while simultaneously building a remarkably solid ODI record.
Bavuma’s leadership qualities were officially recognized in 2023 when he took over the reins of the South African Test side following the retirement of Dean Elgar. Later that same year, he captained the nation to the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup, cementing his status as a key leader in South African cricket.
