About Jofra Chioke Archer

Born in Bridgetown, Barbados, Jofra Chioke Archer is an elite fast bowler capable of reaching eye-watering speeds and, on his day, is considered one of the very best in the world. Although he represented the West Indies Under-19s in 2013, Archer’s British passport—held courtesy of his English father—prompted him to make it clear that he wanted to represent England rather than the West Indies at the international level.

Before making his international breakthrough, Archer spent two highly successful years with the Hobart Hurricanes in the Big Bash League, where he instantly became a fan favorite and a match-winner. Following some controversy surrounding his qualification for England’s national side, he was rushed into the World Cup squad in 2019. He quickly became an integral member of the playing XI, culminating in him bowling the high-pressure Super Over in the tied final against New Zealand.

His introduction to the Test arena was equally thrilling. During the 2019 Lord’s Test, Archer delivered a sharp short ball that concussed Australia’s Steve Smith, going on to take 22 wickets in the pulsating drawn Ashes series. However, injuries severely disrupted his career, forcing him to miss two years of international cricket between 2021 and 2023 before he was eased back into the national white-ball sides. In July 2025, Archer ended a four-year spell in the Test wilderness when he made his return for the Lord’s Test against India.
