Ben McDermott has made a stunning impact in the English T20 Blast, scoring an unbeaten 63 from 27 balls to help Lancashire secure their first win of the season. McDermott’s knock, which included 10 boundaries, was the joint-fastest T20 half-century by a Lightning overseas player, coming off just 21 balls.
McDermott was well-supported by captain Keaton Jennings, who scored 51, and Matty Hurst, who made 57, as Lancashire finished on 4-208. The total proved too much for Nottinghamshire, with former England Test spinner Tom Hartley taking four wickets as Lancashire bowlers took control.
Women’s Fixture
In the women’s fixture, Meg Lanning scored an unbeaten 81 from 49 balls, but it was not enough to prevent a loss for her team. Lanning’s knock was a class above, with the veteran Victorian joining forces with Alisa Lister for an unbroken 100-run partnership.
However, the opposing team, led by Tammy Beaumont’s 54 and Sarah Bryce’s 32, secured the four points. Charli Knott was excellent with the ball, taking 2-23, but was unable to make an impact with the bat.
Australian Players in the English T20 Blast
Several Australian players have made a strong start to the English T20 Blast season. Anika Learoyd has begun on fire, hitting scores of 61 not out and 60 not out in back-to-back games for Somerset. Jess Jonassen has also chimed in with a half-century and a three-wicket haul in her two games for Yorkshire.
Daniel Hughes, however, was not able to save Sussex from a seven-wicket defeat by Kent, despite scoring 26. The batting star of the day was Kent’s Zak Crawley, who cracked an unbeaten 75 from 41 balls to see Kent pass the target with 10 balls to spare.
