Alana Maria King emerged as a standout leg-spinner with a natural ability to extract significant turn, making her a prominent figure in Victorian cricket circles. Her ascent through the ranks began with strong performances at under-15s and under-18s levels for Victoria.
In 2016-17, King’s consistent progress earned her a place in the VicSpirit squad, marking a significant step in her career. The following year, she secured a role in the Melbourne Stars squad during their inaugural WBBL campaign, showcasing her potential on a broader stage.
Determined to reach the highest tiers of the sport, King relocated to Western Australia to pursue more competitive opportunities. Her dedication culminated in a standout WBBL|06 season with the Stars, which earned her a place in the tournament’s official team of the tournament, highlighting her rapid growth as a player.
The 2021-22 season became a defining chapter for King. She captained the newly established Perth Scorchers WBBL team to victory in WBBL|07 before making her international debut with Australia during the Ashes series. Within weeks, she represented the nation in all three formats, playing a pivotal role in Australia’s 50-over World Cup triumph in New Zealand.
Since then, King has continued to elevate her game, with 2025 marking a career milestone. Her performances in the multi-format Ashes series were historic, with a record-equaling 23-wicket haul, including a remarkable nine-wicket haul in the day-night Test at the MCG, solidifying her status as one of the sport’s most exciting talents.
