About Thomas Balkin

Thomas Balkin is a promising fast-bowling allrounder from Queensland whose rapid rise in professional cricket has been marked by poise under pressure and consistent development through the Australian representative pathways.

Balkin’s journey began within the Queensland system, where he progressed through state age-group teams from the U15s through to the U19s. His potential was further recognized when he was named in an extended training squad for the 2022 U19 World Cup. Although he did not feature in the final tournament squad, he went on to represent the Australia U19 side during a series against England U19 in early 2023.

The transition to the professional ranks required significant resilience. Despite a stress fracture in his leg forcing him to miss the entire 2025 pre-season, Balkin’s talent earned him a rookie contract with the Queensland Bulls for the 2025-26 summer.

His professional breakthrough arrived in spectacular fashion during his debut for the Brisbane Heat in BBL|15. Returning to the field after a nine-month absence due to injury, Balkin was thrust into a high-stakes scenario at the Gabba against the Adelaide Strikers. Following an injury to Shaheen Afridi, Balkin was entrusted with the final over and the task of defending 15 runs. He met the challenge decisively, claiming two wickets to secure a match-winning victory for his side.

Following his successful introduction to the Big Bash, Balkin continued his upward trajectory by making his One-Day Cup debut for Queensland against Victoria at the MCG in the 2025-26 summer.
